Understanding the High Court Case Scheduling Process
Many times in the High Court, you hand over your case to lawyers but face the problem of not knowing whether your case has been filed, if your hearing has been scheduled, or whether your case will be heard after being left over in a specific bench. Let’s break down how you can stay informed about your case schedule.
Weekly Case Finalization in the High Court
During Fridays and Saturdays, especially on Thursdays, the cases for the next week in the High Court are finalized. At this time, detailed information is released regarding which bench will hear which cases.
By Saturday, you can access the complete details of all the cases assigned to every judge in the Punjab High Court. This list includes only the cases that have already been scheduled.
Accessing Urgent Cases
Urgent cases, which are filed on the same day, are added later. You can access all these details on your mobile phone using the High Court application.
How to Use the High Court Application
Step 1: Download the App
To access case details, download the High Court application. After downloading, you can check the following:
- The details of the benches.
- Information about the Principal Seat in Lahore.
- Details for Multan or Rawalpindi benches, if needed.
Step 2: Check Case Lists
After opening the app, you will find two main lists:
- Urgent Cause List: Includes urgent cases, updated daily (e.g., cases filed on Monday will appear in Tuesday’s list).
- Supplementary List: Provides details about regular or older cases, often marked in red.
These lists will help you know when your case is scheduled and provide clarity on whether your case has been postponed or canceled.
Benefits for Lawyers and Clients
This process is highly beneficial for both lawyers and clients:
- Clients can check if their case is scheduled for the week.
- Lawyers receive updates about case hearings and can relay this information to their clients.
Additionally, clients can check updates in case of holidays or strikes, ensuring they remain informed about any changes to their case schedule.
Common Challenges and Solutions
One common problem in the High Court is confusion when looking at the lists. By checking the case number in advance, you can avoid stress and easily locate your case in the schedule.
